Sleeping And Camping

Sleeping Tips for Campers

Sleeping is a necessity and without it, you can quickly lose your cool and become very irritable. But, how do you sleep well while camping? Well, you need to set yourself up for success. This means that you will have to think of things that are important to you.

Things such as staying warm or getting too hot are important to think about. If you are camping in a cooler environment then you should consider getting a sleeping bag that is rated for the cooler weather.

Also, the sleeping bag is very much like your bed, so don’t skimp out on it but go all out for a better quality sleeping bag and sleeping mat.  This is essentially the equivalent to your bed at home and you want that to be as comfortable for you as possible. If you like your bed a little on the softer side, you might consider getting a cot and not going with the tent mat.  However, a cot isn’t always ideal for every type of camping option.

Sleeping bag options

Sleeping bags come in different styles as well.  If you are considering taking your sleeping bag on hikes and putting it on your back, then you will want to take the weight of the sleeping bag into consideration.  If you just plan on going to a campground and enjoying your friends and family, then the weight might not be as important. The cut of the sleeping bag matters as well.

A mummy-style sleeping bag often hugs the body more and is warmer on the inside but doesn’t offer much moving around. The wider sleeping bags allow for more movement inside but are not as warm overall.  Just some things to think about.

Do you sleep with a pillow? Many of us do and you need to consider what you will use as a pillow while camping.  If you are camping at a campground then you could easily just bring yours from home.

But, if you are thinking about hiking and even kayaking during your camping trip, you may want something smaller and lighter for your pack.  There are many options out there to look at from inflatable to balling up your favorite tee shirt.

Camping Mats

Camping mats are nice to keep you warm from the cooler ground. They are typically lightweight so they work perfectly with hiking and kayaking camping trips as well as camping site camping trips.

However, there are different types and designs for the camping mats. You should consider what you like when sleeping. If you prefer a harder mattress then a thin camping mat would do just fine. Temperature conditions matter here as well. If it is cooler, you will want to protect yourself from the cold ground.

You can, of course, get even fancier with blow-up mattresses or cots to really make your bed more comfortable. Be sure to put your mattress on a camping mat so that it doesn’t absorb the cold ground. You may even want to put a camping mat down before your sleeping bag if it is cooler out.
