Minimalist Camping

Minimalist Camping – Everything you need to know

Living minimalist can mean many things to many people. After all, give your children bags and tell them to only pack what they need. They will return with different ideas with what you meant. You will have the one kid that thought about EVERY scenario that could possibly go wrong and packed for it.

And, the other more laid back kid that has his toothbrush, some underwear, swimming trunks, because you never know there might be a pool..and that’s it. This is a pretty accurate representation of how people think. However, when you go camping there really are something you need and some you could leave behind.

Pack your things

You will need a bag of some sort to keep your things together. This most commonly in camping is a backpack, however, there are no rules here. Just something, even a grocery sack will do. There are no rules there, just think about what would be easy to carry to your camping destination.

If you are camping in a campground, you may not even need this. Just simply pack your clothing in the trunk along with the other essentials such as toothbrush, deodorant, bug spray, and sunblock. These are essentials that you need but there are other things you could add to this.

Food and Water

Food and Water are essentials as well. You need food and water to live. But, you don’t need the entire refrigerator. Think about how long you will be camping and pack accordingly. This is where some really do go a bit overboard. No, you don’t need s’more making items, but many people like to make them.

It is very dependant on where you camp to what you need. If you are out in the woods alone, then you don’t need a tent, really. And, if it is summertime and very hot, you probably don’t need a sleeping bag, but maybe just a blanket to lie down on the ground to make a “spot” that is yours.

Tent or Tarp

If you are in a campground, you will need a tent or something to make a tent with such as a tarp and rope. The other campers would probably frown upon finding you asleep on their rugs outside their RVs. So, stay on your own campsite when sleeping and have the proper equipment.

Tools

Whether you are going to a campground or walking into the woods for the night a nightlight or flashlight is important as well as a multitool that has a knife in it. This helps you see where you are going as well as helps with finding twigs and other things to make a fire to cook food with. You don’t need to cook food, you can just bring peanut butter and jelly for sandwiches.

However, some like to cook food by the fire and it does make the camping experience more fun. If you plan to have a fire, be sure to pack a lighter, unless you have mad skills at making fire with stones.
