When you went camping as a kid, you probably took some tents, maybe an RV or camper but you probably didn’t hammock camp. Hammock camping is great for those that like to hike while camping. They are generally more lightweight and have components than a tent. And, one would think going this minimalist would have some sort of bad ramifications. However, it is just the opposite.
A hammock is very comfortable to sleep in, it gets you off the cold ground and away from ground bugs and it is far easier to set up. However, it still just seems odd to some people. But, we hope to tackle some of those fear and misconceptions today for you.
Better nights sleep in a hammock
You will sleep better. Sleeping on the ground, even with padding, is not that comfortable, let’s be honest. But, sleeping in a hammock is very comfortable. And, you will not come home from your camping trip exhausted due to lack of sleep. Hammocks are very nice to sleep in, in fact, you will wonder why you didn’t think of this before!
The ground is unforgiving and there is always a rock or something that is stabbing you in the ribs. With a hammock, you don’t care what is in the ground below, it doesn’t have to be flat for you to have a nice sleeping surface and you can literally set up wherever. Because of this, you can set up in places that you could not set your tent up. This makes it easier to find a place to set up camp.
Be more one with nature
You truly get to be one with nature. If you are a person that loves camping because you love to be outside, then hammock camping is right for you. Hammock camping allows you to be one with nature. You will be sleeping outside, so of course, you will want to check the weather. If you are a person that makes fun of those that like to “camp” in an RV or camper, then hammock camping is the way to go.
If you have been tent camping, you know that once the sun starts to rise, it gets hot in there. And, soon that tent becomes a sauna, there is no sleeping in.
A typical camping trip would be waking up for the final time of moving off from that rock or root and getting out before the tent heats up to an uncomfortable temperature. Go out by the fire pit and discuss with others about your sleep or lack thereof at night. But, in a hammock, you don’t have any of that.
You can wake up gradually and watch the clouds go by, birds moving about and listen to the trees before having to get up. It is certainly very relaxing and enjoyable.
Additional accessories to make them versatile
Hammocks also have additional accessories that you can purchase in order to camp in the rain, keep the bugs out and have a changing area. They are just as versatile as a tent and just like tent equipment, you can get the gear at an affordable rate.
I have been camping and going outdoors for over 15 years! My first experience was when I joined the scouts. There I learned a lot. From building a campfire to set up a really big tent. Then I know this is awesome. Around 2005 I also started Geocaching. This is a lot of fun. And every time we go camping we look at the map to see if there are some nice caches around.
